We arrived at the island in the morning to be greeted by heavy rain and mist. Previously, we had high hopes but the weather dampens our spirit. Nonetheless, we steadfastly hold on to our decision. We decided to brave the storm to get to our destination. A squad of 30 brave sobers setting off into the unknown. None of us had step foot in our destination but we are optimistic we will succeed.

So began our long journey into the heart of the island. Our transport arrived at a place where we must continue on foot. The storm, knowing its futility to hold us back, gave up and the sun glows warmly, as though encouraging us.

After everyone had arrived, we marched into the jungle. The path was treacherous and filled with unseen danger. Our progress is slow, leeches and monkeys attacked us, the heat consumes us. We faced our test, and won. Again and again we are challenged yet we beat them, united as a team.

Various people have duties of their own. Some ferried the equipments, some recorded our passage, while others remained vary of our surrounding.As for myself, i took charge as the last man, ensuring no one is left behind. No more than a mundane task, yet the route slowed some of us down and i’m delayed from catching up with others.

After what seems an eternity, we arrived at our destination - the beach. We do what we are supposed to do and before the day is out, our boats arrived to get us. Our escape is filled with beautiful sceneries. Rocks and cliffs filled our visions. It is indeed a wondrous sight to behold. The waves buffet us, trying to sink us but the crews managed to maneuver out of harm.

Eventually, we arrived at the quay. The horrible sight that greeted us is revolting. The pollution reminds us of what humans are capable of. We left the place as fast as we can but the rickety planks groaned under our weight. I keep convincing myself we will make it safely, but i’m not assured until the very moment my feet touched solid ground.

An adventure worth remembering.
